Dance with TRICA! - Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts In-Person
For ages 3 to 13
TRICA (Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts) master teachers will help you explore two energizing and exciting forms of dance!
The South African Gumboot Dance and Step Dance are connected over distances and through sounds! STOMPS, STEPS and CLAPS make up this exciting class of non-verbal communication.
South African Gumboot Dance emerged through mine workers in the times of Apartheid. Miners created a dance language in the midst of silence and suffering. Later, South African Gumboot Dance traveled north to the United States; embroiled in Segregation and Jim Crow. Gumboot strongly influenced the origin of African-American Step Dance, founded in the early 1900s, with the first black sororities and fraternities. Explore nonverbal communication through a system of stomps, claps and chants bound together by a strong sense of community & belonging.
