Roja Ridin' in the Hood and other Tales: a play by local author Patricia Marcantonio In-Person

Four classic tales are reimagined with Latino characters and culture in the one-act children’s play, ROJA RIDIN’ IN THE HOOD AND OTHER TALES, presented at the Nampa Public Library in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Performances will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 11, 2025 in the Multipurpose Room.  Admission is free. The play was written by award-winning writer Patricia Santos Marcantonio.

Preteen Roja takes her ailing abuelita a box of food and meets a wolf in a thumping lowrider. An arrogant student nicknamed El Rey is a fashionista tyrant until a gutsy student shows him his true colors.  A young and lonely bruja (witch) has had enough of the annoyingly vain and bratty girl and puts her to sleep at her Quinceanera.  The three Chicharrón pig brothers deal with a wolf with an appetite for real estate.

The production is by special arrangement with the Pioneer Drama Service of Denver, Colorado and made possible by grants from the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts with sponsorship of Legacy RHS and Dame Alas Latino Arts & Culture.

The play is based on Marcantonio’s award-winning children’s book “Red Ridin' in the Hood and Other Cuentos.”
